St. Michael Catholic School administers a truly unique integrated and coherent program of Catholic classical liberal arts education which is ordered to the good of the adolescent as a whole human person – mind, body and spirit. Consequently our core curriculum addresses itself to the student primarily as a human person, a unique living soul, an image and likeness of God and only secondarily as a future employee or wage earner. Since our education is directed to the satisfaction of the deepest needs of our students, stress is laid upon the cultivation of the intellectual, physical and moral virtues which strengthen the elements of their inmost being – mind, body and spirit respectively. It is in pursuing these ends, in satisfying the inherent needs of their nature, that SMS students discover JOY in their education.
Complementing our rigorous classical core, and preparing our students for life after SMS, is our innovative program of practical electives and internships which provide our students with opportunities to gain exposure and experience with various occupations, while still in high school, and to aid the process of career discernment prior to their graduation from SMS. The aim of the program is to aid our students in making their first step from SMS confidently and joyfully.
St. Michael Catholic School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and approved by the Vermont Department of Education as a PK – 12 independent school. We are Vermont’s FIRST Catholic School, located in the heart of Brattleboro since 1874. We are proudly continuing that tradition of prayer, study and Christian service today. We are a learning institution where students grow in their Catholic faith, discover their gifts and talents, learn responsibility and build lasting friendships. Students not only participate in rigorous academic study, but participate in chorus, the dramatic arts and the fine arts. Ample opportunity to develop physically is found in our physical education classes, in our intramural sports and on our soccer and basketball teams.
The experienced faculty and staff at Saint Michael Catholic School are committed to providing a friendly and engaging environment where the dignity of every student is affirmed, enabling them to grow and cultivate their God given talents. Graduates of Saint Michael Catholic School are well prepared to excel personally and professionally and to assume leadership responsibilities in whatever state of life to which they are called. They take with them a great education, a strong moral foundation, a love of God and family, and a commitment to serve others.
