Saint Michael Catholic School operates its Excelsior! Internship Program with the aim of providing current college students and recent college graduates an opportunity to gain important practical experience in Catholic education by providing direct experience with the daily operation and administration of a successful pre-K-12 parochial school administering an integrated program of Catholic classical liberal arts. In so doing SMS expects to aid students discerning a teaching vocation, to foster the teaching careers of individual students, to fortify the ranks of professional teachers, and to advance the Church's patrimony of liberal arts education.
Internship Positions Available:
Internship positions are available for elementary, middle school and high school teaching positions. Internships are offered during the Fall, Winter and Spring trimesters. Interns may join us at any college break during which St. Michael Catholic School operates.
Eligibility:
We welcome current college juniors and seniors as well as college graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching. No teaching certificate or license is required for admission to the program.
What Interns May Expect:
Since the aim of the Excelsior! program is to provide students with a complete practical experience of the teaching profession, students may expect an introductory tour of our campus and all our classrooms and administrative offices. Interns will receive an overview of our integrated classical curriculum and be provided opportunities to observe the lesson delivery and classroom management techniques of a seasoned faculty. Interns will observe lesson planning, preparation, delivery; they will also have the opportunity to prepare, deliver and support their own lessons under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Interns will have frequent opportunities, both formal and informal, to interact with faculty, raise questions, share observations, and network with teaching professionals.
Candidates should complete an online application form detailing their experience and interest in the internship program. The link can be found below. Completed applications will be submitted to the attention of Peter Orlowski.
