For the past 150 years, we have continued the tradition of prayer, study and service through the traditions of the church. We are a learning institution where students grow in their Catholic faith, discover their gifts and talents, learn responsibility and build lasting friendships. Students not only participate in rigorous academic study, but have an intimate relationship with the parish across the street. From weekly Mass attendance and opportunities for reconciliation, to liturgical celebrations built right into the school calendar, we feel we are honoring our past by making our Catholic faith an integral part of the student experience. Students also benefit from enriching extra curriculars like chorus and drama, community service work, physical education during the school day and competitive athletics in the afternoon. Our teachers and staff are called to teach and work here, as a vocation, not just a job, and they do so with great joy and dedication. We proudly carry on the legacy left behind by the families, students, and teachers of 1874 who dreamed of a school where students could receive an excellent education and live their faith every day, not just on Sundays.

A brief History of Saint Michael School
Shown above is the oldest known photo of Saint Michael school students, taken in 1880, just years after it opened.Saint Michael School opened in 1874 out of a need to provide the community with a school that respected the importance for Catholic families to practice their faith daily. A group of about 125 students were denied late admittance from the local public school after arriving late to school a few times because they were attending Mass on a Holy Day of Obligation. Eventually, on December 8th, 1874 the students were expelled. After this happened, preparations were immediately made to open a Catholic school to serve these families.
Saint Michael School was founded in 1874 with one mission:
to assist parents in the education and formation of their children through the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
We proudly carry on that legacy today. We offer a co-educational day school for students in preschool through 12th grade and welcome families from the tristate area: Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
We are pleased to be among the families throughout history that have made the decision to send their children to Saint Michael Catholic School. Certainly there are many alternatives, but for one reason or another, each of our families has chosen to enroll their children at Saint Michael's instead. Our legacy and our future are one and the same: to offer an educational environment that is grounded in Catholic faith, focused on academic excellence, and nurtures in students a strong sense of self discipline and service to others. -

Saint Michael School is a PreK-12 Catholic, co-educational day school, founded in 1874 to assist parents in the education and formation of their children through the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
SMS believes that “the soul of education is the education of the soul,” (Pope Pius XI). It is our mission to promote and nurture the spiritual, intellectual, and physical growth and talents of our students through a classical liberal arts course of study.
